General Information: Another important component to the exchange experience is the travel to and from your host community. If accepted into the program, the YMCA will look after your travel arrangements and ensure that you have all the information you need to be ready for travel day.

Travel Chaperones: Train chaperones will accompany participants on their journey. Coordinators and other Summer Works Student Exchange staff will be present at the train station for all departures and arrivals.

Meals: Meals are provided for students who are travelling overnight or on certain longer full day schedules. Snacks are at the expense of the student. Full information will be provided prior to departure.

Meeting Time & Place: Prior to date of travel, coordinators will advise students of the meeting time and place of their group. This meeting is mandatory for attendance and luggage registration.

Independent Travel: In general, independent travel will not be allowed and, all youth must travel with their group and chaperone. Special circumstances may be considered on a case-by-case basis and, will only be approved in exceptional circumstances. This is part of our safety plan to ensure students arrive safely at the destination.

Travel Dates: As there are always revisions in the early part of June, the specific departure time and date will be given a few weeks prior to departure. Staff members will be able to assist in narrowing that down so that families can make plans. In general, travel will occur as follows:

  • Outbound Phase: From their community of origin (home), all participants travel towards their summer destination (host family). Estimated travel dates will occur between June 27 and June 30, 2019.
  • Inbound Phase: From their summer locations (host family), all participants return directly to their community of origin (home). Return travel is estimated to occur between August 10 and August 13, 2019.

If this sounds like the experience you are looking for this summer, please apply now!
